Copywriter

We believe that “the people with the best people win” and our Cape Town Agency is looking for a dynamic and experienced Mid Weight Copywriter to join our team and be part of this audacious vision.
You will be responsible for using words to bring to life bold creative ideas, conceptual development and crafted storytelling across channels for recognisable, blue-chip brands.
The ideal candidate will be able to ideate and execute brave, innovative work. We’re looking for a motivated individual capable of generating new ideas and then implementing them; someone who gets passionate about what technology can do for creativity and what creativity can do for the world. We like people who’re never satisfied with their list of awards already won; who remain obsessed with continually building their portfolios. We’re looking for a strong TTL writer, ideally with genuine digital ATL experience.
Extra skills, like the ability to draw, art direct, take photos, make movies, write strategies, illustrate, animate, edit, debate, be funny, multiple languages, other super powers, will aid your cause.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The idea. The sell. The execution. (Be brilliant at all three. Inspire brilliance in all three from those you work with.)
Your number one job is to work with your Art Director to crack big, hairy, fresh ideas and then sell them hard and execute them perfectly. You’ll be expected to function well in a team, and bring a spirit of collaboration with you when you walk through the door every morning.
6 SPECIFIC THINGS YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
- Concepts: Not only will you have to bring brave, new and diverse thoughts to brainstorms, but you will have to deliver strong integrated thinking. You will need to understand a brand's overall strategy and develop work that answers to this. You may also need to facilitate brainstorms where you are able to build on other's ideas and come to solutions quicker with the output being simplicity and thinking that is sharp and beautiful.
- Digital Platforms: A thorough understanding of digital platform formats and how to write for them is essential.
- Execution: You will need to have mastered the art of writing in various tones of voice and to produce work quickly.
- Selling and Presenting: You should be able to confidently present internally and externally to senior clients without the CD being there. You will need to be able to have meaningful conversations with clients around the strategic direction of their brand and the brand's tone of voice - and present creative off the back of strategy, while linking the two seamlessly.
- Production: You will need to be able to choose the correct suppliers (directors/audio engineers/voice artists) and as such you should always be appraised of the latest and best people to partner with, in order to have an opinion on who executes your work. You will be expected to harness the best from those suppliers and build relations with them for the ultimate good of the work.
- People and Relationship Management: You should be able to form and hold close and respected relationships across all departments and people need to genuinely enjoy working with you. You may need to work with and get the best out of junior teams and be open to culturally diverse ideas that don't match your world view.
A FEW THINGS YOU MUST HAVE IN ORDER TO APPLY:
- A varied (and award-winning) portfolio book, which contains a mix of powerful, beautiful, real work that highlight both strong conceptual ability as well as a mastery of the craft of writing. Please include your portfolio in your submission.
- A hunger for the industry and an interest to grow.
- An opinion on what the best work in the world is and why.
- A proven track record in reputable advertising agencies (at least 3 years)
- A list of awards won – and a driving hunger to add to it.
