Creative Director, Copy
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking an experienced Creative Director (Copy Focus) to lead the agency’s storytelling, brand voice, and conceptual excellence across all client campaigns. This role is designed for a seasoned copywriter who has grown into leadership but still has the passion and craft to write, edit, and concept when needed.
The Creative Director will shape how brands speak, ensuring that every message is clear, compelling, and culturally relevant. You’ll collaborate with art directors, strategists, and producers to create work that not only connects emotionally but also drives measurable business results.
Responsibilities:
Creative & Copy Leadership
- Define and champion brand voice, messaging, and storytelling across all client accounts.
- Guide and inspire copywriters, ensuring concepts and executions are fresh, persuasive, and strategically aligned.
- Balance oversight with execution — leading the development of messaging platforms and scripts while writing and refining copy yourself when necessary.
Campaign Development & Execution
- Lead the development of big ideas, campaign narratives, and messaging frameworks.
- Write and edit across a range of deliverables: TV, digital, social, experiential, radio, print, OOH, and branded content.
- Push for bold, breakthrough storytelling while staying true to each brand’s strategy and tone of voice.
Client Partnership
- Present and sell ideas with confidence, articulating the creative and strategic rationale behind copy choices.
- Serve as a trusted partner to senior clients, building alignment on brand voice and messaging direction.
Collaboration
- Partner with art directors and designers to ensure copy and visuals work seamlessly together.
- Work with strategy to turn insights into compelling narratives and campaign platforms.
- Collaborate with production teams to craft scripts, VO direction, and narrative flow through final execution.
Team Development
- Mentor and grow copywriters, editors, and junior creative talent, elevating their craft and confidence.
- Foster a culture of curiosity, collaboration, and fearless storytelling.
ABOUT YOU
You'll bring with you:
- 10+ years of agency experience, with a proven track record in copywriting, brand storytelling, and conceptual development.
- At least 3+ years in a Creative Director, Associate Creative Director, or senior copy leadership role.
- Portfolio showcasing award-winning, strategically driven copy across integrated campaigns.
- Exceptional writing skills — from short, punchy headlines to long-form narratives.
- Strong storytelling and concepting ability across multiple formats and platforms.
- Excellent presentation skills, able to articulate ideas clearly and persuasively.
- Proven experience building, mentoring, and leading creative teams.
You're good at:
- Elevated Standard Bearer: Demonstrate an unyielding obsession with world-class work that drives cultural relevance and business results, refusing to settle for merely "good enough" ideas.
- Visionary Storyteller: Convey a mindset that sees campaigns as comprehensive narratives across channels, articulating a clear, inspiring creative vision that junior creatives can follow and execute against.
- Constructive Provocateur: Show the attitude to fearlessly challenge conventional thinking (clients, account teams, or even agency leadership) in pursuit of the best creative solution, while maintaining professional respect.
- Talent Amplifier: Highlight a management style focused on mentorship, protection, and developing creative talent, inspiring teams to reach beyond their perceived capabilities and fostering a diverse, ego-free creative culture.
- Audience Empath: Express a deep curiosity about human behavior and culture, demonstrating the ability to translate complex strategic insights into simple, emotionally resonant, and impactful creative concepts.
WHAT YOU'LL GET:
We offer a competitive salary, a comprehensive employer subsidized benefits package which includes group medical, dental and vision coverage, Health Savings Account, 401k retirement plan with annual company match, employee wellness, commuter benefits and cellular phone allowance, generous paid time off and employee volunteer day to encourage social responsibility giving time to the non-profit, community service or charity of your choice. Salary is dependent on experience but ranges from: $170,000– $200,000. All candidates must have the ability to work in the US; we are unable to sponsor any work visas for this role.
