Summer Data Internship
Join a team that embeds data at the heart of global change communications.
ABOUT US
World Services is a specialist division of M+C Saatchi Group focused on tackling some of humanity's most challenging problems in fragile states and developing countries. We harness cutting-edge communications and creativity to achieve long-term behaviour change in the places that need it most.
Our data team sits inside this mission, not alongside it. We work directly with programme teams to surface insight, build tools, and solve problems that traditional communications agencies wouldn't think to tackle with data.
THE PROGRAMME
Our Data Boot Camp is a paid 6-week summer internship for individuals passionate about data science, analysis, and building things that matter. It's designed for students or recent graduates who want to develop real technical skills in a mission-driven environment.
The internship runs from 22 June – 31 July based in our Soho offices (9:30am–6:00pm). Interns are paid London Living Wage and expected in the office at least three times per week. World Services will consider scheme graduates for potential employment opportunities. While a role is not guaranteed, this programme is an investment in future talent.
What You'll Work On
You'll work closely with a senior data scientist, receiving structured tasks, mentorship, and feedback on your work. The projects you contribute to will be drawn from real programme needs, so the problems are genuine, even if your role within them is defined.
Depending on your track and skills, your tasks might include:
Building or improving dashboards that help programme teams understand what's working in the field
Writing and testing data pipelines for collection, cleaning, or aggregation
Applying NLP or sentiment analysis to unstructured data - social media, survey responses, press coverage
Supporting the development of a lightweight internal tool or secure data collection system
Preparing clear, well-structured outputs that communicate findings to non-technical stakeholders
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Curious minds
You're naturally fascinated by the world - geopolitics, social issues, why things are the way they are. You stop scrolling to actually read. You believe that communications, applied well and backed by evidence, can lead to a better world.
A builder's instinct
When you see a problem, your first instinct is to think about how to solve it - not wait to be asked. You're comfortable proposing a technical approach, scoping it, and seeing it through, even in an environment that isn't a pure engineering org.
Collaborative by nature
We work jointly with partners, agencies, and other M&C Saatchi companies. You'll need to engage comfortably with strategists, creatives, and programme managers - people who may not speak your language, and who you'll need to bring along with you.
Driven by purpose
What gets you out of bed? Those driven by a greater purpose - people who search for a 'why' - tend to thrive here. We're looking for people who want their career to mean something beyond the work itself.
Technically solid
You should be comfortable processing large datasets and drawing insight from them. Python is essential. SQL is strongly desirable. Familiarity with Git and version control is expected. Wider experience, whether in cloud tools, APIs, web technologies, or ML libraries, is very welcome.
Which Track Is Right for You?
We recognise that 'data' covers a lot of ground. When you apply, tell us where your interests and strengths lie. We'll use this to shape your placement and ensure you're working on problems that challenge you in the right ways. Current areas of focus include:
Natural language processing: NLP & Insight
Sentiment analysis, topic modelling, and text classification applied to programme data - media, surveys, social listening.
AI & software engineering: AI & Software Engineering
Building tools, pipelines, and lightweight applications that solve real programme needs - including secure data collection systems and internal web products.
Data & product thinking: Data & Product
Structuring data products and translating analytical insight into decisions - working closely with programme leads on scoping, prioritisation, and delivery.
Please include a short cover note in your application explaining which track interests you the most. You don't need to fit neatly into one, we're interested in how you think, not just what tools you've used.
Applications will close Sunday, 5th April at 23:59 and successful candidates will be invited for a Video interview in mid-April 2026.
Successful candidates will be offered an internship position subject to the provision of satisfactory references, a successful background check and providing proof of right to live and work in the United Kingdom.
